Cruse is a national bereavement support charity that provides face-to-face, online and telephone support. It is the leading charity for bereavement support and has a good understanding of how a bereavement within the military community can present unique challenges. You can also call them on 0808 808 1677.
The Army Widows’ Association works closely with the Ministry of Defence but is an independent charity set up to support bereaved widows and their families. The organisation offers comfort and friendship to widows in need of support.
Hear from Margaret who talks about how the Army Widows’ Association supports those suffering from a bereavement:
The RAF Widows’ Association is a national charity for those who lost their spouse or partner whilst serving in the RAF at the time of their death, or who died within 2 years of leaving the RAF. The organisation runs a number of events and gives emotional and financial advice.
The Royal Navy and Marines Widows’ Association offers friendship, support, guidance, and comfort to those who are experiencing a bereavement through the loss of their spouse who served in the Royal Navy or Marines.
Our partner organisation SSAFA is an excellent forces family charity and they offer support and advice during a bereavement. Volunteers can be a listening ear when coming to terms with loss, as well as exploring financial support with you.
Forces Support provide services which help with practical support. They can take care of general maintenance jobs in the home and garden for military families who are suffering a bereavement.
For bereaved service children, the Armed Forces Bereavement Scholarship Scheme (AFBSS) can support with funding for further education or a university scholarship.
Winston’s Wish provides support for bereaved children, young people and their families who have a military connection. Â
The NHS provides advice and guidance on how to cope with a bereavement. It is also a good idea to speak to your GP for their help.
